Tending to your skates can be a daunting task, but at Southwest Skate Center, we’re here to help! Here are a few tips for keeping your skates clean and rolling smoothly through all the wear and tear.
Cleaning the Bearings
The bearings can be one of the hardest parts of a skate to clean, but it’s vital that you do to ensure the preservation of your skates. Here is a video by Devaskation showing how to clean the bearings, and it is recommended that you do this process after each use of your skates. Check out the rink supplies in our pro shop to find some good products for bearing cleaning and lubrication.
Cleaning the Boots
It is recommended that you don’t ever get the boots of your skates wet, but if you really feel the need to clean them, your best bet is to scrub them gently with soap and water and let them dry naturally. Trying to speed up the drying process with heat can cause the leather to shrink and ruin the material of the boot.
Checking the Wheels
Check your wheels every so often to make sure there is no damage or buildup. If there is just buildup, you can remove them and simply clean them with soap and water and reattach them to the skates. If they are damaged, you should replace the wheels completely to prevent further damage or injury.
